All full dentures are made of acrylic and take about 4 visits to make- less time when the patient has worn dentures before. They are not always comfortable but can be made more stable with precision attachments that are implanted in the jaw. Denture wearers should continue to have their mouths checked annually for proper fit, fungal infections and lumps and bumps in their mouth.
Partial Dentures are made from either acrylic and are considered a more temporary option or cobalt/chrome base which are very comfortable and the superior option. These latter dentures gain their support from the teeth- unlike their plastic counterpart that rest on the gums and cause inflammation.
Any patient that wears dentures, always has the option of transitioning to a more comfortable fixed option like implants, where the teeth are not removable and there are no restrictions on the type of food that can be eaten.
All dentures require cleaning daily with a soft toothbrush and paste. No dentures should be worn over night but instead, they should be dried and left in a safe place for insertion after tooth brushing in the morning. And no, they should not be left in water overnight! We now know that leaving them in water encourages fungal growth
