Wisdom teeth will often bother teenagers and students when they are “run down”! This is especially true during exam periods.
The symptoms experienced range from mild discomfort or teething pain to extreme pain with an inability to open the mouth fully. All patients with wisdom teeth trouble should be assessed promptly with an appropriate x-ray like an “OPG” to determine whether the wisdom tooth is in a favourable position for eruption or whether it is going to continue giving the patient grief!
Extraction is not the first choice of treatment for any wisdom tooth and there are many ways to reduce the pain and control the infection around the crown of the tooth, such as antibiotics, mouth rinses and gentle cleaning.
